Download the one-page field reference
Section titled “Download the one-page field reference”Scan six conditions

|---|---|
| Threat | Is there current violence, a weapon, credible threat, or dangerous behavior? |
| Medical | Is there injury, altered responsiveness, breathing difficulty, ingestion, severe symptoms, or deterioration? |
| Access | Can responders reach the person, see what matters, communicate, and leave safely? |
| People | Who is helping, escalating, exposed, missing, or requiring a separate function? |
| Pressure | What noise, crowding, questioning, conflict, time pressure, or sensory load can be reduced? |
| Position | Are distance, exits, sight lines, objects, traffic, elevation, or responder placement adding risk? |
Run the five-move Secure procedure
Section titled “Run the five-move Secure procedure”- Look — pause and scan Threat, Medical, Access, People, Pressure, and Position.
- Protect — take the required emergency action and immediate protection within role.
- Reduce — remove avoidable pressure, exposure, objects, noise, crowding, or competing direction.
- Organize — assign functions within authority; otherwise activate the required capability and confirm what it accepts.
- Decide — approach, hold, change the arrangement, or withdraw and escalate.
State the immediate field output
Section titled “State the immediate field output”Condition → Action → Owner → Next action → Trigger
“Medical condition is uncertain after reported ingestion. Emergency medical response is active. I retain scene access and student communication until accepted. Next action is responder entry through the east door. Reopen or escalate for reduced responsiveness, breathing change, violence, blocked access, or loss of the current support.”
Move only when Secure is sufficient for the next action
Section titled “Move only when Secure is sufficient for the next action”Move when the defined next action can occur without preventable added harm and every remaining consequential condition has a current owner, accepted capability, or emergency route. Quiet, cooperation, responder arrival, or one removed hazard is not enough by itself.
Return immediately when conditions change
Section titled “Return immediately when conditions change”Return to Secure for new danger or violence, medical deterioration, blocked access or exit, new or escalating people, renewed pressure, unsafe position, failed support, or a next action that can no longer occur safely.
